SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURAL HOMES

JACK'S HOUSE

A 3 bedroom home, on a compact 6.5m x 6.5m footprint, built for $400,000+GST in 25 weeks.
The entire structure, cladding, tilt-turn windows, cavity, rigid air barrier, linings, kitchen & cabinetry are made from renewable NZ grown timber.
Raised above the ground reducing flood risk, it adopts traditional lightweight timber framed construction to make it practical and easy to build, for all kiwi builders on many types of sites in Aotearoa.

Material waste and labour were reduced by working to standard material sizes, combined with a digital fabrication model and a clearly labelled, step-by-step assembly guide — significantly reduced the cost, time, & stress to build.

A sustainable and universal building system of the future to help with our climate and housing crisis.

Conceptually, it is a ‘seed’, a pure form, sown lightly into the earth. Exterior weatherboards and scribers, along with bespoke interior trim detailing, create relief, patterning, and rhythm, reminiscent of the texture of a seed. Interior spaces completely lined with natural plywood, create a natural warm immersive experience of being inside a seed.
